BriefQuote ("we", "us", "our") is operated by James Webb, a sole trader based in Birmingham, United Kingdom. We are committed to protecting your personal data and being transparent about how we use it.

1. Who We Are

BriefQuote is an AI-powered quoting tool for UK tradesmen. Our service is accessible at briefquote.co.uk and app.briefquote.co.uk.

2. What Data We Collect

We collect the following personal data:

Email address — provided during account setup. Free tier emails are stored only on your device. Pro subscriber emails are also stored in our secure database to verify subscription status
Company name — stored locally on your device, appears on your quotes
Payment information — handled entirely by Stripe. We do not store your card details
Job descriptions — the text you enter to generate quotes, sent to Anthropic's API for processing. Anthropic does not use this data to train its models and does not store it beyond the immediate request
Usage data — quote count, settings preferences, stored locally on your device

3. How We Use Your Data

To provide and improve the BriefQuote service
To verify your subscription status and restore Pro access
To process payments via Stripe
To generate AI quotes via Anthropic's API
To respond to support enquiries

4. Legal Basis for Processing

We process your data under the following legal bases:

Contract performance — to deliver the service you've signed up for
Legitimate interests — to improve our service and prevent fraud
Legal obligation — where required by law

5. Third Parties

We share data with the following third parties only where necessary:

Anthropic — processes job description text to generate quotes. Subject to Anthropic's privacy policy
Stripe — processes payments. Subject to Stripe's privacy policy
Vercel — hosts the application. Subject to Vercel's privacy policy
Upstash — stores subscription status (email and Pro status only). Subject to Upstash's privacy policy

We do not sell your data to any third parties.

6. Data Storage & Security

Most of your data (company name, quotes, settings) is stored locally on your device using browser localStorage and never transmitted to our servers. Your email address and subscription status are stored securely in our Upstash database hosted in London, UK.

We use HTTPS encryption for all data transmission and follow industry-standard security practices.

7. Data Retention

We retain your email and subscription status for as long as you have an active account. If you cancel your subscription, your Pro status is removed automatically. You can request deletion of your data at any time by emailing hello@briefquote.co.uk.

8. Your Rights (UK GDPR)

Under UK GDPR, you have the right to:

Access the personal data we hold about you
Correct inaccurate data
Request deletion of your data
Object to processing of your data
Data portability
Lodge a complaint with the ICO at ico.org.uk

9. Cookies

BriefQuote does not use tracking cookies. We use browser localStorage to store your settings and quote history locally on your device. This data never leaves your device unless you explicitly use a feature that requires it (such as Pro status verification).

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by updating the date at the top of this page. Continued use of BriefQuote after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
